Spiritual needs
10:47 p.m. x 06.10.09

I was just reading the news and everywhere I looked, there was bad news.

Earthquake Rescue Missions in Indonesia

Worst flood in X years for India

X million newborns/babies die each year in India

Really, sometimes I wonder what's the point of life, when everything seems to be going the wrong way. Who cares about who gets to host the next XYZ? Who cares about whether FV accounting is more suitable than Historical Cost Accounting? Who cares about all these when everyone is going to die with Mother Earth?

I was quite depressed (a post-effect of AA306 quiz) reading these. I guess one does need some spiritual healing on a frequent basis.

Moral hazard part 2
3:32 p.m. x 01.10.09

The much dreaded presentation is finally over and it went on surprisingly well. He totally skipped Q1d because we had different interpretations of the figures given: he felt that the fuel expenses given excludes the hedging gains/losses but our team had based our answer on the premises that the figures included the gains/losses. Hence, he said to go back and rework the answer, adding that he would be 'sympathatic' when he grades the report we handed in. As for Q1c, he told me there was not need to present a part of the answer because it was just the opposite of another part. We were arguing the strength of one option based on the weakness of the other, and vice versa. So, I kind of smoked it through.

We got a B+ for Q1, A+ for Q2 and Q3 and A+ for oral presentation. I can't figure how he did it but the overall was an A+. Which really surprised me. Maybe he was in a good mood because he was less strict with our presentation and although some parts were just us smoking and others were not really logical to us even. Oh well.

Oh and the moral hazard.

Well, you know how our school gets accreditation from various external organisations? One of the criteria is students' evaluation of the education quality they receive. The thing is, if they spoke out against the school, there is a possibility that the school won't get accredited. If so, it reduces the value of the degree the students get when they graduate. See the tension here? Who in the right mind would do so? Well, except for those who are really passionate about making a difference...the revolutionary ones...
