Time flies! Tomorrow will be the last day!

Yesterday was really tiring. Shopping day. The woman of the house couldn't stand not shopping for three days straight (believe me, it's a record, especially for overseas trips) so we spent the day shopping. Not surprisingly, most of the stuff we bought were from Japan, or so said the storekeepers.

We had congee, Taiwanese style for breakfast - kind of reminded me of my colleagues back in Singapore, and the Taiwanese congee we have for lunch sometimes.

We visited Shi Lin night market in the evening. Wished I was there alone, so I could explore the alleyways more thoroughly.

Today was mainly a roadtrip. We dropped by many nature spots along the way as the tour guide took us along the coastline.

Rice field.

Cafe in the depth of the mountain.

Sunset.

I was quite exhausted by the time we reached Jiufen a around 8pm. So, when the tour guide asked if we'd like to just take a short walk through Jiufen, I wasn't too enthusiastic about it. I wondered what sights there'll be when it's already so late. Boy am I glad that he persuaded us!

Because I saw this alleyway.

That scene from On Air flashed in my mind. Yes! This must be the location used for that scene. I looked around, excited about that fact and tried to locate the restaurant where Lee Kyung Min (Park Yong Ha) and Seo Young Eun(Song Yoon Ah) had dinner together after he pestered her to death for writing the script for his drama. I was about to give up, because I don't quite remember how the restaurant looked from the outside. There could be many other such alleyways in this place, who knows! So, when Mr Andy the tour guide mentioned about this restaurant we were passing by called "悲情城市", that it was named after a drama "悲情城市" which filmed inside, I didn't pay much attention. Until I passed by the restaurant and saw this.

I miss Park Yong Ha. 용하씨, 난 지금도 보고 싶어.

It's almost been a year.

More of nature!!

We went for mountain activities on Monday. Visited this cosy cafe nested in the depth of the mountain, linked to the outside world by a narrow one-lane road.

With a small stream,

Tall trees,

And beautiful plants and insects.

Next up after lunch was bringing lunch for the fishes at another stream nearby!
<

Can you see them?

See them??

There were beautiful flowers there too. Look at those colours!

Someone send me these for Valentine's!!

Yeah, to me! Don't get the wrong person:

Dinner was Japanese buffet!!

As for today (or, yesterday), we visited the National Palace Museum, which had some impressive artefacts. I was especially impressed by the jade carvings for a few pieces. There was this 'open-net' design whereby a net-like stucture is carved out of jade, so you get this porous effect in the jade. Imagine doing that, even with today's technology!! And it's not just a small surface. The objects were large, a five-tier food container for example. There was anoher which involved 5 spheres of jade, each within the next bigger sphere. Imagine the effort and time spent on that one item. Amaziing feats.

We tried to shop a bit after that, but failed.

Because Taiwan is not Japan.

Obviously.

But for a seasoned Japanese-style-shopper, the Taiwanese style just don't catch my eye. =S

Went on an outdoor trip today! Haven't been out under the sun for the longest time, so although it was hot and sunny, it was quite an enjoyable day.

The local breakfast - local style fried dough you tiao

Sulphur gas rising from the dormant volcano

The wind was so strong, it took me many tries to get that shot!

Had lunch at a beachside restaurant

Went on a hike on one of the mountain (?) and saw really clear, beautiful waters.

Dinner at Taipei 101

And I was surprised to see this Singaporean/Malaysian favourite at the supermart!
